About the company Hrvatske šume
Hrvatske šume d.o.o. is a state-owned forest management (FM) company with the headquarters in Zagreb, 17 regional forest administrations (subsidiaries) and 169 regional forest offices.
Its mission is to ensure a sustainable and integral management of the state forests on the whole territory of the Republic of Croatia in an environmentally sensible, economically efficient and socially responsible way towards the society in general and the employees of the company.
This FM company manages the majority of the state-owned forest area in Croatia - over 2 million hectares (M ha).
About their FSC FM certification
Hrvatske šume was the first FM company from the Adria-Balkan Region to request an FSC forest management certification. In 2002, after a successful third-party audit, they have obtained an FSC FM certificate which included over 2 M ha of state-owned forest area. Until 2007, Hrvatske šume has been the only FSC-certified FM company in the Region, thus becoming a certification pioneer. The importance of forest management certification of the entire state-owned forest area in Croatia did not go unnoticed even 20 years ago, read the article posted by WWF here. With over 2 M certified ha - Hrvatske šume company still holds one of the largest single FM certificate in Europe!
Since 2002 this FM company has successfully passed each annual third-party surveillance audit, thus maintaining their FSC certificate for 20 consecutive years for the entirety of the state-owned forest area they manage (over 2 M ha) - what an accomplishment!
