The jury announced the winners of the FSC Furniture Awards competition, launched by the international organisation Forest Stewardship Council® to reward FSC-certified companies from the indoor and outdoor furniture sector.
The awards ceremony was held online, with winners in six award categories (Home living, Home office, Office furniture, Furniture for public spaces, Outdoor furniture for the home, Outdoor furniture for public spaces) and five special awards (Socially responsible business, Communication , Green, Labelling and Small Business) announced by a jury composed of representatives of FSC network partners from 11 competing countries (Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Croatia, Italy, Germany, Poland, San Marino, Slovenia, Serbia, Great Britain). The only category not awarded was that of Retail Furniture - a special mention was awarded instead.
The festive event was preceded by a round table on the use of wood from certified sources, attended by representatives of FSC International, an international non-governmental organisation, a public forest management company from Serbia (PE "Srbijašume"), retailers and journalists, and the event itself was moderated by a designer and BBC star Oliver Heath. You can watch the online event below.
The countries with the largest number of FSC-certified companies producing furniture are Poland (861), the United Kingdom (746) and Italy (602). These figures go hand in hand with the growing demand for products of sustainable origin. Indeed, new research conducted by Globescan on behalf of FSC International reports that 84% of consumers expect companies to offer wood/paper products that do not contribute to deforestation. This new Report is part of FSC's efforts to understand how forests, people and markets are responding to global change.
